Dear Parents,

It’s not easy for us, or for our child, to leave them with a babysitter or with a relative, but it happens! The little owl protests and refuses to let her mother leave her in the care of the babysitter and go.

“I’m not little and I don’t need a babysitter.” The story illustrates how the mother and the baby sitter deal with the owl’s fears of separation from her mother and prepare her for bedtime in a confident and empathetic manner. We see the mother owl saying goodbye to her child after preparing her in advance and clearly explaining what would happen during her absence, then leaving with a goodnight kiss.

When we learn to trust our child’s abilities to deal with the challenge of separation, this will also strengthen their belief in their abilities, and teach them to trust their parents and other figures in their life in the future.

Separation time also lays the groundwork for our child to develop their ability to adapt to difficulties, improve their ability to trust others, and enjoy their experiences more.
