About Keren Grinspoon Israel (KGI)
Founded in 2009 as a Public Benefit Company, Keren Grinspoon Israel (KGI) aims to enrich home libraries and foster a love of books and reading among children and their families. In partnership with Israel’s Ministry of Education, KGI operates two flagship programs: Sifriyat Pijama for the Jewish community (since its inception in 2009) and Maktabat al-Fanoos for the Arab community (since 2014).
Through these programs, KGI distributes approximately 3.5 million high-quality children’s books annually to more than 500,000 Jewish and Arab children across Israel, reaching them through educational institutions from early childhood centers through second grade.
Beyond book distribution, KGI promotes meaningful dialogue between children and adults around values, emotions, and identity—conversations that begin in the classroom and continue at home and into the broader community. The Foundation’s programs offer children unique opportunities to celebrate the richness of cultural identities, traditions, and heritage within Israel’s diverse society.
