Dear Parents,
How can we support our child in dealing with loss? The granddaughter misses her grandmother who has passed away, feeling nostalgic as sherecalls beautiful memories with her; swimming in the sea, wearing her jewellery, eating her favourite food, caring for her cat, and ending her day with a love message to her dear grandmother, saying: you’re still present in my heart and memory.
It’s not easy for us, nor for our child, to deal with the strong and difficult emotions that storm within us after losing a loved one, especially with our intense feeling of longing.
In our story, the granddaughter needed to commemorate her grandmother’s memory and express her feelings. Like her, every child experiencing loss in any form needs us to provide time and safety to express their feelings in whatever way makes them comfortable (such as talking or drawing).
We need to listen with our hearts, share beautiful memories, embrace them, or together do charitable work dedicated to the spirit of the departed loved one. It’s important to always remember that a child’s dealing with loss is a process that needs time and embracing them.
